“Always believe in yourself -
from BIS to a robotics company
2019 was one of the first classes at Bavarian International School (BIS) with over 80 graduates - a very high number compared to the very first graduation class with just 17. Daria Lobova also entered the history books as an alumni of the Class of 2019. The Russian from the Wolga city of Kazan now works at the successful robotics startup AGILE ROBOTS.
Before moving to BIS, Daria Lobova attended a boarding school and remembers the strong control and constriction by the teachers. “BIS gives freedom and opportunities to live and learn by yourself, however, it still guides students in the right direction and supports them in all areas. It also offers a great opportunity to meet people from everyone around the world, which significantly improves communication for the future life”, says the BIS alumni, who graduated with the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB DP). For her, other aspects that characterise learning at an international school were very important at the time: Be open to everything, try different things that make you happy, make useful and important connections for the future, and always believe in yourself even if someone is doubting you.” Asked for just one noun to outline her time at BIS, Daria answers "Joy" and reinforces this with a happy smiley face.
Game changer for the future
After completing her Bachelor's degree in Media and Communication Management at the Macromedia University of Applied Science (under the supervision of Professor Dr. Mohamed Badr), her skills and positive energy led her directly to her current employer AGILE ROBOTS, one of the most successful robotics start-ups. Here, the 23-year-old quickly rose from a working student to permanent employee. Her current position is "Junior Talent Acquisition Manager". “I am responsible for talent search. I participate in many interviews, and sometimes I participate in various fairs: for example, TUM Career Fair or Automatica this year which is a part of employer branding activities.”
The mission of Agile Robots is to bridge the gap between artificial intelligence and robotics by developing systems that combine state-of-the-art force-moment sensing and world-leading image processing technology. “Combining Robotics with AI is a big game changer for the future,” says Daria, who is super happy with her employer - very passionate, international team, lots of interesting projects and amazing team events. As a next step, she wants to continue to grow, just like her employer, and let everything else come to her. “It´s just important to believe in yourself and be open to new challenges.” Daria Lobova gains strength and balance from traveling, quality time with friends, sports and cooking. “Sometimes I even try making my recipes which somehow turn out to be quite delicious,” she jokes.
The Bavarian International School remains in her heart for all her next steps. She has two close friends from her school days, and she would like to come to one of the next big BIS events - at the BIS International Festival on 22 June 2024, where there will be a special alumni table. “Even though many of us went our different ways after BIS, we all kept those fond memories from BIS. My school remains a wonderful place that helped me to become the person I am today.”
