Matt Willis and Seby Mühlhaus first founded Alumni Football back in 2012 - here they shared a few thoughts and reflected on the last nine years.

What was the inspiration behind founding Alumni Football?

The experience of the school sports trips - we were both lucky enough to go on a lot of sports trips during our time at the school and we loved every minute of it.

Even things like hosting - it was always an experience (some better than others) and we still now talk about some of the experiences we had.

We also found it was harder to exercise and keep fit as we got older, and we missed the social part of being on a team and competing together.

2012 - First Game

Have there been any challenges with running Alumni Football?

Honestly, not that many. It's a small amount of work (especially the game scheduling and organising and the league admin) but everyone is so committed and enthusiastic it makes it must easier. Seeing how much everyone enjoys it as well makes the whole experience both fun and worth doing.

2013 - Alumni Reunion

What advice would you give to someone starting their own BIS Alumni club?

You need to be prepared for the regular few hours of work it'll be per week. It probably won't be many, but you've just got to do it consistently.

Other than that, just find something people enjoy and work on getting a good group together and building a positive team spirit - we think that's the most important part of Alumni football.

2019 - BIS Soccer Fun Night

Who has improved the most?

Apart from us, there are a few people who've improved a lot over the years! Kathinka Müller-Preisler, Julian Flietner, Nico Lichtenberg, Anna Melander, David Procek to name but a few!

2017 - Game vs EPO

What's next for Alumni Football?

Great question! We'd love to improve our video recording - maybe get into doing more live streaming of our games. We would also like to do more commentary, maybe with more match reports or publications.

We would also consider a second team in the future - maybe a re-booted BIS Parents and Teacher (and Alumni) team - who knows!

If any students or Alumni are interested in helping us expand what we do - or you want to join and play football, please get in touch with us! We're excited to see what the future brings, and we hope to see you soon! ■
